League One Player of the Month: December nominations

8 January 2019

The December nominations for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award are:

Ronan Curtis (Portsmouth) – winger

Four assists and a goal for the Irish winger who must rank as one of the EFL signings of the season. A throwback who loves to beat full-backs on the outside, yet who also has the vision to play defence-splitting passes.

John Marquis (Doncaster Rovers) - striker

Three goals and two assists for the mobile frontman who is almost impossible to mark because of his tendency to roam. Examples were his piledriver from out wide at Bristol Rovers and a mazy run and finish against Scunthorpe.

Matty Pearson (Luton Town) – central defender

Pearson’s no-nonsense style is loved by fans and his manager alike. An outstanding month in which he helped to preserve three clean sheets and found time to equalise at a corner against Coventry.

Ivan Toney (Peterborough United) - striker

Five goals in as many games for a striker who continues to mature. His work-rate is improving, too, but it is his finishing which stands out. A hat-trick at Accrington was completed by a wonderful piece of anticipation and positioning.
