The December nominations for the Sky Bet Goal of the Month Award are as follows:
Tom Ince – Reading v STOKE CITY – 1st December
Impeccable technique from Ince who took a step backwards to line up a high, looping cross from the by-line and, with the ball still slightly behind him, caught it perfectly on the volley.
Lucas Joao – Blackburn Rovers v SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY – 1st December
Joao had one thing in his mind when he received the ball. One touch positioned it in front of him, the second launched a 25-yard shot so ferocious it was still rising as it struck the net.
Omar Bogle – BIRMINGHAM CITY v Stoke City – 26th December
England keeper Jack Butland threw up his arms in helpless despair as Bogle cushioned the ball on his chest, took a stride, then curled in a left-foot shot that nestled in the top corner.
John Marquis – Bristol Rovers v DONCASTER ROVERS – 8th December
Marquis caught the entire Bristol Rovers defence unaware, shooting from so far out and with such little back-lift that the ball was past them and bulging the net before they realised.
Cauley Woodrow – BARNSLEY v Peterborough United – 26th December
There was something eerily deliberate about Woodrow’s goal. Every step appeared to be planned from the drift inside from the wing to the imperiously struck shot into the far corner.
David Fox – AFC Wimbledon v PLYMOUTH ARGYLE – 26th December
Quite what possessed Fox to think he could strike a dipping volley from 35-yards and judge it so perfectly that it looped over Dons keeper Tom King, only he knows. But he could.
Yoann Arquin – YEOVIL TOWN v Northampton Town – 22nd December
With his side trailing in the final minute, Arquin decided it was time to chest down a bouncing ball and strike the dreamiest volley of his career in off the underside of the bar.
George Williams – Newport County v FOREST GREEN ROVERS – 26th December
Williams’ free-kick was so far out from the Newport goal, it was almost over the border in England. So perfectly was it struck that no goalkeeper in either country could have saved it.
Wes Thomas – Port Vale v GRIMSBY TOWN – 26th December
The sign of a striker in form is that he knows what he is going to do before anyone else on the pitch. To be precise, a jink inside and an arrowhead of a shot into the far top corner.
