December was the month in which the 22-year-old rediscovered last season’s scoring form with six goals in as many matches, plus an assist. The goals came in braces and showcased his precision shooting after cutting inside.
Bowen said: “I’m delighted to win the award but it was a good month for the whole team and everybody played their part.
“We won every game with the exception of the draw at Millwall and it’s a run that has pushed us right up the table. Everybody has been playing well and there are many of my team-mates that could have been picking up this award as well.
“We’ve got some big games coming up this month now and we’ll keep working hard and looking to improve.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “He’s one of the most sought after young players currently plying their trade in the Sky Bet Championship and it’s easy to see why after months like December.
“Three braces and two assists were a key factor behind Hull’s changing fortunes and the club are determined to keep hold of him for the remainder of the season.”
Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: “Jarrod Bowen was in outstanding form for Hull with six goals and an assist in as many matches.
“His form has been so good that Hull have been forced to rule out letting him go in January. He now has eleven goals for the season (five behind the leaders Abraham and Sharp) and is a 20/1 shot to win the Golden Boot.”
