Sheffield United captain Billy Sharp believes the Blades have learned from their mistakes from last season in their hunt for promotion.
United were firmly in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Offs hunt, before eventually tailing off to finish 10th in the 2017/2018 campaign.
They currently sit third in the table and Sharp believes that last year’s experience is standing the South Yorkshire outfit in good stead this time around.
He said: “This time last season we were in a similar position and we slipped away. This year we’ve made the squad stronger and we’ve learned from the mistakes we made last season.
“That’s only in the short term, though. We now need to make that long-term and make sure we stay in the mix right up until the end of the season.”
The Blades go into their match against Queens Park Rangers this weekend looking for their fourth-straight Sky Bet Championship win.
Sharp added: “I think we’ve done it once this season already but it is a difficult achievement to win four games in a row.
“We’ve said over the Christmas period that it’s a spell where we can pick up points quickly and we’ve managed to do that, which is credit to the boys and the staff for setting it up for us.
“We have to be ready for QPR at home, it’s going to be another tough game and hopefully we can get another win.”
Sharp, who in his last league match became the leading scorer in English league football this century, also hopes that if he continues to hit the back of the net it can help lead his boyhood club to promotion.
“This season, I want to try and hit the 20+ mark, so that’s something I’ve got to try and do. But, like I say, I just want to score goals for Sheffield United to help this team to the Premier League.”
