Spotlight on: Max Aarons

4 February 2019

As part of Youth Development Week, we're putting the spotlight on young English players who have enjoyed a breakthrough year in the EFL.

It's been an unforgettable 12 months for Norwich City's Max Aarons, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young defenders in the country with his performances this season.

Aarons has taken to life in the Sky Bet Championship like a duck to water, having only signed a first professional contract in June 2018, and has reportedly attracted interest from Premier League Clubs.

The 19-year-old caught the eye for club and country by scoring his first senior goal in the Carabao Cup - against Premier League side Cardiff City at the end of August - enough to earn him an England Under-19s call-up.

Days later, he was rewarded by Canaries boss Daniel Farke with a first league start on derby day against Ipswich Town, and produced an assured display beyond his years as the sides drew 1-1.

Norwich now sit top of the table on goal difference, with Aarons playing a vital role in their bid for automatic promotion.
