Sky Bet League Two preview: Feb 23

22 February 2019

Play-Off battles take centre stage in Sky Bet League Two, here's our preview of the weekend.

Tight at the top: Part 1

This weekend, Mansfield Town host Forest Green Rovers in Sky Bet League Two, a division that is really heating up at the summit of the table.

The Stags currently sit third in the league, four points off top spot, while Rovers are the same distance from the last automatic promotion place.

This will be the second EFL meeting at the One Call Stadium between the two sides, with the last game finishing in a 2-0 victory for Forest Green.

North West derby at Gigg Lane

Oldham Athletic boss Paul Scholes was no stranger to a North West derby during his days as a Manchester United player, but this weekend’s game against Bury will be his first as a manager.

The Shakers are without a win in eight home league meetings against the Latics, last beating them on home soil in the EFL back in September 1967.

Meanwhile, Oldham are aiming for back-to-back victories away from home for just the second time this season.

Tight at the top: Part 2

Another Play-Off battle sees sixth-placed Colchester United welcome seventh-placed Carlisle United to the JobServe Community Stadium.

The Cumbrians were victorious in this fixture last season, and are looking for make it back-to-back away wins in the EFL for the first time in their history.

The U’s, however, will be hoping that three points could see them overtake Forest Green Rovers and potentially MK Dons in the promotion race, depending on results elsewhere.

League leaders to rule the globe

Lincoln City have drawn their last four Sky Bet League Two games, and are in desperate need of three points if they are to cling onto top spot.

They travel to the Globe Arena to take on Morecambe at the weekend - the Imps have only lost one of their five visits to the Shrimps in League Two.

Jim Bentley’s side have won back-to-back games in the league, they last won three in a row back in August 2016.

Around the grounds

MK Dons entertain Newport County on Saturday, which will be the second-ever EFL meeting between the two sides, with the last one finishing 1-0 to Paul Tisdale’s side.

Tisdale’s former side Exeter City head north to face Crewe Alexandra, and Tranmere welcome bottom club Notts County to Prenton Park, looking to keep a third clean sheet in four games in League Two.

Elsewhere, it’s the battle of the two Towns as Swindon take on Grimsby. Elsewhere, Stevenage host Northampton Town.

Down at the bottom of the division, 21st-placed Port Vale head to Cheltenham Town, where three points could prove vital to either side.

Yeovil Town take on Cambridge United and Macclesfield Town head to Crawley Town. A win for Macc could lift Sol Campbell’s side out of the drop zone for the first time this season, depending on results elsewhere.
