Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri says the Semi-Final second-leg game against Tottenham Hotspur was the Blues' best performance on their way to the Carabao Cup Final.
Sarri’s side were 2-1 winners on the night but had to see off their London rivals in a penalty shoot-out after Spurs’ 1-0 win in the first leg at Wembley, and he says his players reacted well to the initial defeat.
He said: “I think the best match was the first half against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup, and I think that we were lucky in the first match because we were in trouble in the first half.
“We scored in the last minute of the first half [in the second leg] and the match changed, we were unlucky in the second game because we started very well and we conceded a stupid goal.
“We were unable to react which was a disaster; I think for this match [against Manchester City] is to stay in the match for a long time, because then we will be able to do something.”
Manchester City are Chelsea’s opponents in Sunday’s Carabao Cup Final, and despite a 6-0 defeat to the Citizens earlier on in the month in the Premier League, Sarri has confidence in his players.
He added: “For 30 minutes, I saw a team who was very worried and a team without confidence, so tomorrow I do not want to press them, I want their minds to be free.
“I want to win the Final because, if you don’t, you come second. I think it is very important for us because we have to find the confidence.
“We are in the first final of the season and we are only one point off the top four in the table.”
