EFL Team of the Week Feb 1-2

5 February 2019

Another week of impressive performances throughout the EFL, but who has made it into the Team of the Week?

Goalkeeper

Brad Collins – Burton Albion

Brewers shot-stopper Brad Collins produced an outstanding display in Burton’s goalless draw with Oxford United, after central defender John Brayford was shown a straight red card on 12 minutes.

Defenders

Dimitri Cavare – Barnsley

Barnsley took the initiative and leapfrogged Portsmouth into second place with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe United at Oakwell. A solid performance from Dimitri Cavare meant that the Tykes kept a clean sheet on home soil once again.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell – Rochdale

A much-needed three points arrived for Rochdale on Saturday after a 2-1 win against Walsall in Sky Bet League One. An opening goal inside four minutes from Ethan Ebanks-Landell set the tone for the victory.

Krystian Pearce – Mansfield Town

‘The Chief’, Krystian Pearce was on the scoresheet as Mansfield Town strengthened their hold on second position and cut Lincoln Town’s lead at the top by seeing off Sol Campbell’s Macclesfield Town by three goals to one.

Midfielders

Nicky Law – Exeter City

The Grecians have won their last two games in Sky Bet League Two to keep themselves in the Play-Off places. An impressive 3-1 win over MK Dons, with Nicky Law grabbing a brace, sealed his place in Team of the Week.

Mario Vrancic - Norwich City

Two goals in one of the Canaries’ biggest games of the season helped them to a 3-1 win over fellow title challengers Leeds United at Elland Road. The 29-year-old’s double ensured Norwich City snatched top spot off Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Said Benrahma – Brentford

During what was a superb individual display, a piece of smart play from Benrahma saw him evade one sliding Blackburn Rovers defender before slotting the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of David Raya’s goal in a 5-2 victory at Griffin Park.

Sammie Szmodics - Colchester United

A goal and an assist for the impressive Sammie Szmodics, as the U’s ran out comfortable 4-0 winners against Northampton Town at the weekend, as they continue to their hunt for a Play-Off place.

Forwards

Jordan Cook – Grimsby Town

Two finishes from the forward helped Grimsby to a 3-0 victory over Newport County at the weekend, which moves them up to 12th in Sky Bet League Two. The striker certainly warrants his place in our XI.

Andreas Weimann - Bristol City

Bristol City nicked sixth spot from Derby County this weekend, as they picked up three points against Swansea City at Ashton Gate. A goal and an assist from Austrian Andreas Weimann capped off a solid display from Lee Johnson’s men.

Britt Assombalonga - Middlesbrough

In big games you need your big players to stand up and be counted, and that is exactly what Boro striker Britt Assombalonga did on Saturday afternoon. The 26-year-old netted a double against West Bromwich Albion in a 3-2 victory at the Hawthorns.

Manager

Daniel Farke – Norwich City

Masterminded his side’s 3-1 win over title rivals Leeds United away from home. Two goals from Mario Vrancic and one from the ever-reliable Teemu Pukki saw the Canaries claim a priceless victory at Elland Road.
