Quest pundit Ian Holloway believes Sheffield Wednesday have a real chance at promotion this season and that Jordan Rhodes is still one of the best.
The striker ended a 20-month wait for a Sheffield Wednesday goal at the weekend with an impressive hat-trick as the Owls beat Play-Off contenders Nottingham Forest 4-0 at the City Ground.
Speaking during Saturday night’s EFL on Quest highlights show, Holloway said:
“I’m so pleased for him, form goes in and out but class is forever. Strikers have problems but he knows where the net is, he’s one of the best and he’s helping a great team get going again. His final goal on Saturday was just brilliant, it’s great to see and I think Sheffield Wednesday have a real chance this season"
Rhodes put Garry Monk’s side ahead early on with a left-footed finish into the bottom corner before heading home from close range to score his second. The former Norwich City player completed an impressive hat-trick with a spectacular overhead kick as Wednesday secured their third win in a five-game unbeaten run.
“If Rhodes starts firing them in then we have to take Sheffield Wednesday so seriously.”
Those were the words of Colin Murray on Saturday night’s EFL on Quest. With Steven Fletcher on 12 goals for the season and just one goal away from his best ever tally for goals scored in a season, he and Jordan Rhodes could become a real threat to Championship defences heading into the second-half of the season.
Speaking to iFollow Wednesday after the game, Rhodes said: “It’s nice to be playing football, it’s nice to be winning games and it’s nice to be scoring goals. As a striker in football moments like the weekend and hat-tricks like that are what you live for.
"The manager has told me to enjoy my football and do what he knows I can do. It’s not always easy when you’re not playing and scoring goals but moments like that are your reward. I’ve really enjoyed this last week of football."
