Leyton Orient captain Jobi McAnuff believes participation in the Leasing.com Trophy is "a real perk" for EFL Clubs and players alike.
Orient will compete for the trophy this season, having earned promotion back to the EFL in 2018/19, a campaign which saw the competition attract its highest-ever attendance of 85,021.
Speaking at the EFL Season Launch last week, McAnuff says last year's Final speaks volumes about the importance of the Leasing.com Trophy, and is excited to be involved.
“It’s a really good competition. You only have to look at last year’s Final and the amount of fans that turned up to see that," he said.
"It’s certainly a tournament we’re looking forward to getting to grips with, and there will be teams from different divisions too.
"From that point of view, it will be a really good experience for all of the lads here. It’s a real perk of getting back into the EFL and one all of us are really looking forward to."
The Trophy has a rich history of aiding youth development in football, and McAnuff believes this year's competition will provide the perfect platform for younger players to showcase their talents.
“It works well on both fronts for the younger lads, it gives them a taste of real football, as I would call it," he added.
"It also gives them a chance to play against the Academies and see the level of players, so it’s a really good format and one we’ll embrace.
"Like any other tournament, we’ll be looking to go as far as we can.”
