The Sky Bet League Two saw the back of the net rustle 35 times last weekend, including some heavy hitting scorelines. More of the same this Saturday? You bet…
Goals galore
If it is goals you are looking for, then Cheltenham Town’s visit to Exeter City is worth keeping an eye on. Ten of the 20 goals scored during the last five meetings between these sides occurred in two games last season.
Recent history swings the Grecians way; they are unbeaten in the last seven meetings between these sides, having won six of those.
However, before this impressive record started against the Gloucestershire side, Cheltenham had won all nine of the previous encounters — their last victory was in 2013.
Second-placed Exeter have scored seven goals in their last two matches, but the Robins have enjoyed happy travels of late, with both of their wins this season coming away from home.
Grudge match
Fewer than 15 miles separate Crewe Alexandra and Port Vale, and their League Two position is even closer — just a single place. These sides sit 17th and 16th respectively.
Recent history also struggles to clearly separate these two sides. In the last 20 meetings in all competitions since as recently as 2006, Vale have come out on top in seven of them, the Railwaymen have won nine and the rest resulted in draws.
Around the grounds
Sky Bet League Two leaders Lincoln City host Milton Keynes Dons for the first time in 12 years. The visitors are still unbeaten but have dropped to mid-table after failing to win in almost a month. However, MK Dons do have reason to be confident — they have never lost against the Imps.
Oldham Athletic and Colchester United also renew acquaintances this Saturday. Both sides met in League One for eight consecutive seasons between 2008 and 2016 and face each other once again, this time in the division below.
The schedule boasts some interesting clashes at the other end of the table, with winless bottom two Macclesfield Town and Notts County travelling to fellow strugglers Morecambe and Northampton Town respectively.
With goals still in mind, Yeovil Town thrashed second-placed Newport County 6-0 last Saturday, who have now dropped to third following the result. The Glovers now host Swindon Town on Saturday, who have conceded 14 goals in their first eight matches, and the Exiles travel to Tranmere Rovers.
