All the teams in Sky Bet League Two will be in action once again tonight. The full programme of fixtures has some cracking games in store…
Can Lincoln City increase their lead at the top?
The Imps will be big favourites to continue their hot streak at home as they entertain a Carlisle United side who come in to the match on the back of two straight defeats.
Danny Cowley’s Lincoln side have only lost once in the league at Sincil Bank this term and will be confident of taking all three points. Carlisle meanwhile, have only beaten their opponents once in their last seven meetings.
In fact, it was 2002 when The Blues last won the fixture with a 1-0 win in a game that featured four red cards with Carlisle still coming out on top despite going down to eight men. It certainly wouldn’t be dull if there was anything close to a repeat of that tonight.
Unbeaten run to continue for The Grecians?
Exeter City meanwhile face a tricky trip north to Crawley Town to defend their run of eight games unbeaten as they look to keep the pressure on Lincoln at the top.
They face a Crawley side who are brimming with confidence after a 4-1 victory against promotion chasing Newport County at the weekend and sit just outside the play off places on goal difference.
It should be a fascinating encounter that features the league’s top goalscorer in Grecian’s forward Jayden Stockley who has already bagged nine goals this campaign. While Crawley’s Ollie Palmer sits one behind him in the standings on eight.
Bury to close the gap to top three?
Two of the top seven sides face each other at Gigg Lane tonight after a weekend of mixed fortunes for both sides.
The Shakers hammered helpless Notts County 4-0 on Saturday but Ryan Lowe’s side face a trickier test against 4thplaced Newport County tonight. Newport however, will need to improve dramatically to take anything away from this fixture after suffering a 4-1 defeat to Crawley at the weekend.
Bury could well be favourites for this one if you look at the form guide too. The Shakers have lost only one in their last nine and scored 18 goals along the way. Their striker Nicky Maynard is in red hot form with four goals in his last three league games for the club.
Around the grounds
Elsewhere, 3rd placed MK Dons, who sit only a point behind Exeter will be expected to keep the pressure on at the top as they welcome Notts County to Stadium:mk. The Dons have won their last four league games while County’s away form has seen them take only four points from the last 24.
5th placed Tranmere travel to Forest Green Rovers who sit in 9thplace, in the first ever meeting between the two sides in the EFL. Both are faring quite well this season but the home side currently have the record for the most draws (nine) despite having only lost the once.
Meanwhile at The Moss Rose, Macclesfield Town will fancy their chances against a struggling Northampton Town side. The Silkmen ended their 36 game winless streak on Saturday and are hoping for back to back wins for the first time in seven years (since Oct 2011).
