Here's our pick of the best XI from Matchday 19...
Goalkeeper
Glenn Morris – Crawley Town v Crewe Alexandra
Has found it tough going in recent weeks but he made a string of saves here, including a splendid double stop in the first-half to deny Crewe, which proved vital as Crawley went on to win the game.
Defence
Angel Rangel – Stoke City v QPR
The R’s right back scored two brilliant goals and was a threat all game, causing Stoke havoc down the wings. His second goal in particular was a memorable one.
Michael Dawson – Hull City v Nottingham Forest
A captain’s performance. The Forest skipper has looked as solid as a rock at the back for the Reds in recent weeks and he was again here, marshalling the visitors’ defensive line. It’s those foundations which have helped Forest only lose one game in their last 12 in the Sky Bet Championship.
Alan Hutton – Aston Villa vBirmingham City
Derby day hero. Not only did he get forward when he could all game but he scored what is arguably the goal of the weekend when he dribbled past five Birmingham City players and slotted it in the corner to send the Villa fans in to raptures.
Midfield
Ben Kennedy – Stevenage v MK Dons
Set up his team’s first goal to open the scoring in the first half and scored the decisive winner with a brilliant free-kick in injury time to down the Dons at Broadhall Way.
Paul Caddis - Bradford City v Oxford United
The versatile midfielder was arguably the Bantams’ best player, helping guide them to a vital win at Valley Parade. His calming influence when the home side were up against it in the first-half was vital to the win.
Jordan Thompson – Blackpool v Burton Albion
Between him and his team mate Jo Dodoo, who were both excellent. Thompson scored the second goal for the Seasiders in a 3-0 win and set up the opener in a brilliant performance. His trickery and skill proved too much at times for the Brewers’ defence.
Sammie Szmodics – Colchester United v Exeter City
Scored an absolute belter and a goal worthy of winning any game. Deserves to be in the team of the week based purely on the fact he scored an absolute worldie!
Forwards
Teemu Pukki – Swansea City v Norwich City
At. It. Again. His influence on this Norwich City attack is clear for all to see and yet again he caused havoc for the Swans defence. Neatly stuck his goal away and he’s taking some stopping at the moment.
Elliott Lee – Gillingham v Luton Town
Scored a brace to notch what was his second and third goals in two games as the Hatters’ impressive run continued. His two goals on Saturday were cooly taken to help take Luton up to 4th and level on points with Barnsley.
Jack Marriott – Sheffield Wednesday v Derby County
Six goals in eight games for Derby’s star man as he netted the winner at Sheffield Wednesday. Marriott had earlier set up Wilson to level the scores. His importance to this Derby County side is clear to see.
