Plymouth Argyle striker Freddie Ladapo has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for October.
Veins of form do not come much richer. Six goals and two assists in six games for the 25-year-old who scored every type of goal, including a lovely individual effort against Burton, to help lift Argyle out of the relegation zone.
Plymouth manager Derek Adams said: ““Everyone at Argyle congratulates Freddie on winning this award for his notable contribution in October.
“Freddie works very hard for the team and deserves all the plaudits that have come his way.”
Ladapo said: “It’s a fantastic month for me. Obviously, it took a while to start off at a new club – I just signed this summer – but I think the players, the fans, the management, they’ve made it easy for me to settle in.
“I’m enjoying my football a hell of a lot. Coming here as a new player, you want to just hit the ground running and get going, and I think the goals I’ve scored have given people a lot of confidence in me – and playing in front of 10,000 fans every week is fantastic.
“Being so far away from home, you don’t know what to expect; you think it might take a while for you to settle in. But the people here have just been fantastic and made everything to easy.
“Six goals in six games – I think this is the best goal-scoring form I’ve been on so far, and long may it continue.”
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “Plymouth really needed their key players to stand up and be counted in October, with the club languishing deep in the relegation zone.
“Lapado’s six goals and two assists contributed to some vital points being picked up and despite a defeat to second-place Sunderland, they now have some momentum on which to build.”
Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies said: “Lapado’s impressive goal haul of six goals in the month of October included a couple of braces and lifted Plymouth off the bottom of Sky Bet League One.
“The Pilgrims still have their work cut out as they are still second favourites for the drop at 4/7.
“However, they were in the same position this time last year and only just missed out of the Play-Offs and with Ladapo’s goals they will be hopeful of going on another similar run. He can be backed at 25/1 to finish as the league’s top scorer.”
