Exeter City will feature in the Sky Bet League Two Play-Off Final for a second straight year, after a 3-1 aggregate victory over Lincoln City.
The tie was finely poised after a goalless first leg at Sincil Bank, with Exeter hoping to return to the Final a year on from last season’s defeat to Blackpool, and the Imps looking for another trip to Wembley after Checkatrade Trophy success last month.
The hosts made all the early running and were rewarded when a half-cleared corner made its way to Jayden Stockley, who volleyed beyond Ryan Allsop into the far corner.
Lincoln thought they had levelled before the break through Elliott Whitehouse, but the goal was ruled out for a handball, and the sides went in with the Grecians a goal to the good.
Shortly after the break, it was two, and the goal was delivered in some style. Winning the ball in his own half, Hiram Boateng drove forward before curling a delightful effort in off the post.
Another stunning strike followed when Ryan Harley struck a fierce effort beyond Allsop, but Lincoln weren’t going to go out without a fight – Matt Green pulling one back with 12 minutes to go.
However, that was all Danny Cowley’s side could conjure up as a memorable first season back in the EFL came to an end, and it’s Paul Tisdale’s Exeter who will do battle for promotion at Wembley on Monday 28th May.
