EFL Play-Offs: Coventry City storm past Notts County to book Wembley place

18 May 2018

An impressive display from Coventry City saw them book a place in the Sky Bet League Two Final, sealing a 5-2 aggregate victory against Notts County.

Coventry took the lead in the sixth minute, when a corner dropped to Maxime Biamou. No stranger to acrobatics, the Frenchman executed a perfect overhead kick to send the ball into the far corner.

The Sky Blues continued to threaten, and top scorer Marc McNulty doubled the lead not long before the break, starting and finishing a neat move which ended with a cool finish from inside the area.

However, Notts County weren’t going to go out without a fight, and Jorge Grant reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time to keep the Magpies in the tie.

The hosts started the second half brighter but soon after Jonathan Forte had an effort ruled out for offside, Coventry went up the other end and restored their two-goal advantage courtesy of Biamou’s second of the night.

Tom Bayliss made it 4-1 late on, striding forward and firing beyond Adam Collin with the aid of a deflection.

Coventry City will now face Exeter City at Wembley Stadium on Monday 28th May, with a place in Sky Bet League One up for grabs.
