International Women’s Day: Fleur Robinson – Burton Albion

“I’ve been fortunate, but it is about raising awareness of the opportunities out there for women in sport.”

6 March 2018

Ahead of International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March, we will be sharing the stories of those successful women within the industry, from the academy to the boardroom level across the footballing world – and there are plenty to tell.

Currently the Commercial Director at Burton Albion Football Club with over 20 years’ experience, Fleur Robinson has been at the Brewers since 1997.

In her role, Fleur is responsible for the day-to-day running of the club, particularly the off-field activity including the building of the Pirelli Stadium and expanding the commercial opportunities that came with their new home.

‘Born into football’, at least according to Fleur herself, she had an interest in the club since the age of four, and also played her part in the Brewers’ incredible rise from the Southern Football League Premier Division all the way to the Sky Bet Championship.

Fleur also recently attended a workshop in support of International Women’s Day to inspire young female students at Staffordshire University, and is hopeful her experience within the industry can help others to plan their future.

“As part of my journey I have realised people don’t know what they want to do when it comes to leaving school, particularly women. I think it is good to give them confidence along the way and important to give them some insight into potential career choices.”

Take a look at the video below as Fleur discusses her education, 20 years’ experience at Burton Albion and the challenges she faced entering a male-dominated industry…
