Checkatrade Trophy

Quarter-Finals: Review

23 January 2018

Three of the Checkatrade Trophy Quarter-Finals were played on Tuesday night, with Shrewsbury, Chelsea U21, and Lincoln City securing their Semi-Final spot.

At New Meadow, Stefan Payne fired Shrewsbury in front after just 16 seconds of their quarter-final tie with Oldham Athletic, a lead they held until Aaron Amadi-Holloway levelled things up in the second half.

However, with penalties approaching, Alex Rodman struck, booking the Shrews a place in Thursday night's draw.

Chelsea U21 put in a stellar home performance against Oxford United, advancing with a 3-0 victory. The young side from Stamford Bridge eased through with goals from Harvey St.Clair, Deshawn Redan and Juan Familio-Castillo.

Lincoln City won 4-2 at home to Peterborough United, thanks to two stoppage-time goals. It was a nightmare start for the Imps though; Neal Eardley turning into his own net to give the Posh the advantage.

Danny Rowe and Matt Rhead netted either side of a Danny Lloyd strike to leave it 2-2 on the hour mark.

The tie looked destined for penalties, but Harry Anderson and Matt Green stepped up in the 91st and 94th minutes respectively to clinch the triumph.

The fourth quarter-final will take place on Tuesday 6th February, when Yeovil Town host Fleetwood Town.
