Checkatrade Trophy

Player of Round Three: Nominees

19 January 2018

The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round nominees for Round Three are:

Craig Davies (Oldham Athletic)

Led the Oldham line superbly and came out on top in a match-long tussle with Leicester’s Premier League winner Robert Huth. His two goals included a smart toe-poked finish to a flowing move as Oldham progressed with a 4-2 victory.

Dean Henderson (Shrewsbury Town)

The Shrewsbury hero in normal time and the penalty shootout. A breathtaking flying stop to a 30-yard Raul Correia shot was the pick of his saves in open play, while he also saved Danny Philliskirk’s opening penalty for Blackpool in the shootout.

Jordy Hiwula (Fleetwood Town)

The striker scored two goals, following up his own pass for the first, sprinting away from the Bury defence for the second. He also won the penalty for Fleetwood’s other goal in his side’s 3-2 win.

Charly Musonda (Chelsea)

The 21-year-old Belgian midfielder treated Fratton Park to a glimpse of his skills with both goals in the 2-1 victory over Portsmouth. His first was a calm finish following a one-two, his second a pinpoint free-kick to seal victory in injury-time.

Nathan Smith (Yeovil Town)

Made an impact at both ends in his side’s 2-0 win over Forest Green Rovers. Captain for the night, the centre-half tapped in to give his side an early lead, then marshalled the Yeovil defence superbly when they came under second-half pressure.

Voting closed at 9am on Monday 22nd January.
