January Transfer Window: Weekly round-up

19 January 2018

Another busy week of transfer activity as we cross the halfway point in the January window. Here's our latest round-up of the ins and outs...

Arguably the most notable of the week’s transfers came at Leeds United, where the Elland Road club purchased Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw for the fee of £4.5m.

Elsewhere, in-form Derby County added Cameron Jerome to their striking options, joining the second-placed Rams from Norwich City.

There was news of an incoming for the Canaries, however. Marcus Edwards, a part of England’s U19 European Championship-winning squad last summer, links up with Daniel Farke’s squad until the end of the season.

East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town made a double swoop on Friday, bringing in Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and Stephen Gleeson from Birmingham City on a free.

Sheffield United have had a busy January, and their latest addition comes in the shape of winger Ricky Holmes. The 30-year-old joins from Charlton Athletic, and will reunite with boss Chris Wilder after enjoying success together at Northampton Town two seasons ago.

Steel City rivals Wednesday made their first signing since the arrival of Jos Luhukay. The Dutchman has signed fellow countryman Joey Pelupessy from Heracles Almelo.

Other notable transfers

Marko Grujic: Liverpool — Cardiff City (loan)
Dani Pinillos: Cordoba - Barnsley (undisclosed)
Martin Samuelsen: West Ham United — Burton Albion (loan)

Oldham Athletic made their move this week, bringing back midfielder Jack Byrne to the club on a permanent basis after an impressive loan spell.

Kean Bryan, another loanee, has extended his spell until the end of the season. However, much to the disappointment of Ryan McLaughlin, Alexis Sanchez won’t be arriving at Boundary Park any time soon.

Northampton Town continued their January business with the acquisition of Gboly Ariyibi on loan and Joe Bunney, who moves to Sixfields from fellow strugglers Rochdale. Dale have added a couple of new faces though — Sam Hart comes in from Blackburn Rovers with Mihai Dobre from AFC Bournemouth, both on loan.

Another team towards the wrong end of the table, AFC Wimbledon, have snapped up Joe Pigott after impressing with Maidstone United in the National League this term. Bottom club Bury have brought back former Shaker, George Miller, in on loan from Middlesbrough.

Peterborough United have brought in talented winger George Cooper from Crewe Alexandra, who is second in the EFL assist charts behind fellow Posh midfielder Marcus Maddison.

Other notable transfers

Dan Agyei: Burnley — Blackpool (loan)
Jack Payne: Huddersfield Town — Blackburn Rovers (loan)
Marcus Tavernier: Middlesbrough — Milton Keynes Dons (loan)
Zak Vyner: Bristol City — Plymouth Argyle (loan)
Simon Church: Scunthorpe United — Plymouth Argyle (free)

Swindon Town added two strikers to their ranks this week, with Keshi Anderson and Marc Richards signing permanently. Experienced striker Marc Richards has arrived from Northampton, while Anderson joins from Crystal Palace after a stint on loan.

Another player to make a loan deal permanent is Brandon Comley. The midfielder leaves behind QPR, and has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal with Colchester United, where he’s impressed since his August arrival.

Neil Aspin has raided former club Gateshead to bring in Luke Hannant. The Port Vale boss brought the 24-year-old to the Heed during his reign in the north-east, and will link up once again with the midfielder at Vale Park. Aspin has also brought in Zak Jules from Shrewsbury.

Also this week, Crewe Alexandra made a double loan swoop, bringing in Dan Barlaser from Newcastle United and Harry McKirdy from Crewe Alexandra.
