Oldham Athletics’ Craig Davies has picked up the Checkatrade Player of the Round Award for his outstanding performance against Leicester U21’s in the Third Round of the Checkatrade Trophy. Supporter Diane Blythe won the opportunity to present the striker with his well-deserved award.
Davies led the Oldham line superbly and came out on top in a battle with Leicester City’s Premier League winner Robert Huth. His two goals on the night included a smart toe-poked finish to a flowing move as Oldham progressed with a 4-2 victory.
Craig Davies, Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round, commented, “It’s very nice to receive the accolade, I got told yesterday so I was pleased with that and of course even happier to reach the next Round.
“A few of the team have played at Wembley before but I’ve never actually played there so it’s a great opportunity to get through to the Semi-Finals. Going to Wembley would be massive for anybody so hopefully we can achieve that.”
Diane Blythe, the winning fan, said, “As an Oldham supporter, the obvious choice of vote was for Davies, however, his performance against Leicester U21’s made him a worthy winner for the Player of the Round. The Checkatrade Trophy is a great competition and it would be amazing if we can keep performing and take another step closer to Wembley!”
Craig Davies was joined on the shortlist by other standout performers from the Checkatrade Trophy:
Charly Musonda (Chelsea)
Dean Henderson (Shrewsbury Town)
Jordy Hiwula (Fleetwood Town)
Nathan Smith (Yeovil Town)
