Carabao Cup: Manchester City hero Dennis Tueart reflects on '76

19 February 2018

Few can boast of an accolade such as ‘the greatest ever moment in the EFL Cup’, but for Manchester City legend Dennis Tueart, his overhead kick in the 1976 Final was voted exactly that.

Not only did his goal come in spectacular fashion, but it turned out to be a winning strike at Wembley, as Manchester City defeated Tueart’s hometown club Newcastle United in front of a capacity crowd.

The 68-year-old was speaking on the first day of the Carabao Cup Trophy Relay, as former footballer-turned pundit Chris Kamara, and impressionist Darren Farley, began their tour of every club to win the prestigious trophy.

Outside of the impressive Etihad Campus, Tueart relived those magical moments in front on the TV cameras, before turning his attention to the current crop of players at the Citizens’ disposal.

Sunday’s Carabao Cup final could see Pep Guardiola lift his first piece of silverware as City manager, and past great Tueart is excited to see what the future holds for his former side as they look to begin what could be a historical season for the club.
