Preview: Sky Bet League One – Matchday 5

24 August 2018

After a manic midweek, the Sky Bet League One season continues. Here's the weekend preview...

Perfection

Just two sides in the EFL still hold a 100 per cent record, and they are both in League One, and they are both on the road this weekend in a bid to make it five wins from five.

Peterborough United lead the way and face a trip down south to winless Plymouth Argyle. Seven of the previous nine encounters have finished 2-1, four of which have fallen the way of the Pilgrims.

Portsmouth edged past Bristol Rovers in the week to keep up their run, and they go to Doncaster Rovers who sit seventh early on, winning their first two before failing to score in two previous outings. Doncaster are unbeaten in six against Pompey, winning the last two in Yorkshire.

Point to prove

Oxford United are the only League One club to get off the mark this season, leaking 13 goals in their four straight defeats.

Could Saturday be the day to get off the mark? Burton Albion are the visitors, and they haven’t started strongly either. It’s one win from four for the Brewers since their return to League One.

The last three visits have all gone the way of Burton, most recently on Valentine’s Day in 2015. With the pair struggling at the wrong end of the table, both sides would love to come away from the weekend meeting with maximum points.

Around the grounds

Barnsley are the only club in the EFL yet to concede a goal and they travel to Scunthorpe United, who have lost their last two games and shipped eight in the process.

Sunderland and Walsall are two other sides yet to taste defeat and both are away from home, with the Black Cats facing AFC Wimbledon in the capital, and the Saddlers making the visit to Rochdale.

Also on their travels are winless Shrewsbury Town; they travel to a Luton Town side who earned their first triumph in midweek, and Wycombe Wanderers go to Bradford City in search of a maiden success since promotion.
