Late Lawrence goal seals three points for Derby County

3 August 2018

A 94th-minute Tom Lawrence header secured Derby County all three points to kick off the 2018/19 EFL season.

Frank Lampard's managerial debut came in front of the Sky Sports cameras at the Madejski Stadium against Reading, who are managed by Lampard's former coach, Paul Clement.

The Royals had the better of the first-half chances but were unable to provide a finish, and the sides went in at the break goalless.

The fixture came to life on 52 minutes through the opening goal of the 2018/19 EFL season. A perfect Mo Barrow cross found Jon Dadi Bodvarsson who headed home to put Clement's side in the lead.

It took just eight minutes for the Rams to get themselves level. A fine finish on the edge of the 18-yard box from Mason Mount found its way past Vito Mannone in the Reading net.

With the fixture seemingly heading for a draw, Derby produced a moment of magic in the final moments of the match. Mason Bennett whipped in a wonderful cross for Tom Lawrence to provide a clinical headed finish, and complete the turnaround, 2-1.
