The March nominations for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award are:
Alex Cairns (Fleetwood Town)
Fleetwood’s unbeaten March had a lot to do with Cairns’ resurgence under John Sheridan. Restored to the side, he conceded just one goal in five games and made crucial stops at Charlton and in atrocious conditions at Wimbledon.
Chey Dunkley (Wigan Athletic)
Commanding in both boxes and with a natural ability to snuff out danger or sniff out a goal, he enjoyed himself at both ends of the pitch in March, contributing three goals and four successive clean sheets to Wigan’s promotion charge.
Jack Marriott (Peterborough United)
Where would Posh be without Marriott’s goals this season? Another five in five games came in March, the work of an instinctive finisher, especially the last-minute winner at Bury and an equaliser in the final seconds at Rotherham.
Brett Pitman (Portsmouth)
Injury restricted Pitman to three games in the month, but the arch predator made the most of them with four goals and an assist. The goals came in all styles – close-range tap-ins and an intelligent, towering header at Oldham.
The winner will be announced on Friday 6th April.
The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL Trader Mikey Mumford.
