Lincoln City are the 2018 Checkatrade Trophy champions, following a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town at Wembley Stadium.
The first half was a lively affair, and Bryn Morris nearly fired Shrewsbury in front early on with a ferocious strike that rattled the crossbar. Soon after, the deadlock was broken.
With just over quarter of an hour played, an effort on goal could only be parried by Dean Henderson, and Elliott Whitehouse made no mistake, pouncing to score the Lincoln’s first ever goal at Wembley Stadium.
Shrewsbury couldn’t have been much closer to levelling when Omar Beckles headed towards goal later on in the half, but Ryan Allsop produced a moment of Wembley magic to keep out the defender’s goalbound effort with half-time approaching.

After the break, the Imps came under more pressure from the League One outfit. However, despite Paul Hurst’s men seeing much of the ball, they just couldn’t make inroads against a well-drilled Lincoln defence.
As the clock wore down, so did Shrewsbury, and Lincoln City held on to mark their maiden Wembley appearance with victory.
History made.
