Goal of the Month: March nominees

6 April 2018

The March nominations for the Goal of the Month Awards are:

Sol Bamba – Brentford v CARDIFF CITY

A centre-back? Really? Bamba showed the awareness of a true goalscorer as he chased down a bouncing ball, swivelled on a sixpence and bulged the net with a blistering shot.

Ben Marshall – Barnsley v MILLWALL

As he collected possession on the left, Marshall knew exactly what he wanted to do. Skill matched ambition as he jinked inside and judged the loft on his angled shot to perfection.

Sone Aluko – READING v Queens Park Rangers

All of Aluko’s tricks were evident in this corker. A lovely feint, searing pace, close control, dribbling skill and the single-mindedness to wallop a 20-yarder into the roof of the net.

Lee Martin – Portsmouth v GILLINGHAM

Three touches were all it took for Martin to round off a superb win with this beauty. One to control the ball, two to nudge it to one side and, bang, three to arc it unerringly into the top corner.

Lewis Page - CHARLTON ATHLETIC v Plymouth Argyle

It would have been easy for Page to panic after controlling the ball with his chest. Instead, he judged the bounce perfectly, looping his shot into the far corner for his first career goal.

Steve Davies – ROCHDALE v Shrewsbury Town

Back to goal as a free-kick was headed into his path, Davies didn’t hesitate in hooking the ball over his head and inches under bar with this acrobatic move. Who needs Ronaldo?

WATCH AND VOTE: Choose March's top strike

Perry Ng – Stevenage v CREWE ALEXANDRA

The man with the shortest name in the Sky Bet EFL left no-one in any doubt how to spell it after dispossessing Mark McKee, striding forward and thundering home a left-foot strike.

Jordan Clark – ACCRINGTON STANLEY v Forest Green Rovers

An incredible solo goal from Clark, who collected the ball in his own half, sprinted away down the touchline, cut inside to beat two men and topped it off with a cheeky nutmeg.

Harry Pell – Crawley Town v CHELTENHAM TOWN

At 6ft 4in, Crawley’s defenders certainly saw Pell coming. They couldn’t stop him, though, as he charged through a tackle, skipped on and struck a looping shot into the top corner.
