Derby County and Hull City got the EFL weekend under way at Pride Park on Friday night, with the home side running out comprehensive 5-0 victors.
A brace from Matej Vydra set the hosts on their way, with the forward striking in the 15th and 34th minute.
In between Vydra’s two finishes, Leonid Slutsky’s side had an opportunity to level the game, but Sebastian Larsson couldn’t find the back of the net from the penalty spot, after Ola Aina had been brought down in the area.
Soon after making it 2-0, Derby had a third. Curtis Davies was the man who got it — heading home powerfully following a corner.
The Rams’ Czech forward went close to completing a first-half hat-trick moments later, however the home faithful were soon celebrating once more.
Bradley Johnson got in on the act before the break, as he finished Tom Lawrence’s cross from the right at the far post.
After the restart, things continued to get better for County and for Johnson, who got his second of the night just ahead of the hour mark.
The midfielder’s 58th-minute finish would prove to be the final goal on a terrific night for Gary Rowett’s team, who climbed to fourth in the standings ahead of the Saturday action.
