Round-up: Friday night EFL action

13 October 2017

The Sky Bet Championship returned on Friday night, with two games kicking off the EFL weekend.

At St Andrew’s, Steve Cotterill got off to a winning start as Birmingham City boss, with him watching his side defeat league leaders Cardiff City, thanks to Che Adams’ first-half strike.

That goal from Adams came in the 19th minute, as he cut inside, before firing the ball past Neil Etheridge and into the back of the net.

After the interval, Cotterill’s team almost doubled their advantage, however an effort from Adams which subsequently deflected off Cheikh N’Doye was cleared off the line by the Bluebirds.

It wouldn’t prove costly though, and the hosts held out for a very impressive victory against Neil Warnock’s men.

Elsewhere, there was nothing to choose between Bristol City and Burton Albion, who shared the points in a goal-less encounter at Ashton Gate.

The hosts took the game to their opponents in the opening period, with chances falling for the likes of Joe Bryan, but despite creating a greater number of chances, they couldn’t break the Brewers down.

That theme continued in the second-half, as Lee Johnson’s side pushed for what would have been an all-important goal.

0-0 is how it finished however and, it’s a point that sees the Robins move up to third in the table, with their opponents rising to 20th place, ahead of the rest of the weekend’s action.
