The September nominations for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month Award are:
Aden Flint (Bristol City)
Transfer bids and speculation delayed his first start of the season, but he made up for lost time at both ends in September. Commanding at the heart of the City defence, his three goals earned points against Reading, Wolves and Bolton.
Sam Johnstone (Aston Villa)
The last line of a defence which kept five clean sheets in six games. A commanding presence, he was outstanding all month, particularly when producing a series of stunning saves to preserve a goalless draw against Brentford.
Diogo Jota (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Full of pace and directness, the on-loan Atletico Madrid midfielder drove forward at every opportunity. His five goals in six games included a beauty on the run against Millwall and two poacher’s finishes at Nottingham Forest.
James Maddison (Norwich City)
Elegant in possession, the 20-year-old conjured up two of the Championship’s most memorable September goals in his four starts. First, a pinpoint curler for the winner at Middlesbrough, then an exquisite free-kick at Reading.
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford.
The winner will be announced on Friday 6th October 2017.
