Player of the Month: Brett Pitman - Portsmouth

6 October 2017

Portsmouth's Brett Pitman with September's Sky Bet League One Player of the Month Award.

Portsmouth's Brett Pitman has been named the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for September.

Brought to Fratton Park to score goals, Pitman did exactly that in September with six in seven games. A classic predator, he broke his nose scoring his first goal against Fleetwood, but stayed on and added a second with a lovely curler.

Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett said: “Brett enjoyed a very successful September and scored some important goals for us.

“He showed his commitment and desire by staying on the pitch after breaking his nose against Fleetwood. I’m sure that he will continue to play a vital role in the team when he returns to fitness.”

Pitman said: “I’m delighted to receive this award and with the start I have made to my Pompey career.

“But it is just a start and I know I need to keep scoring goals once I have recovered from my injury. I also need to thank my team-mates for providing me with so many chances to find the net.”

Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman said: “In what is ending as a tough week for Pitman, after two operations on his knee and a broken nose, we have to look back on an outstanding month and some sublime goals.

“Pitman has already proven a shrewd addition by Kenny Jackett, offering goals and leadership and will be vital if Pompey are to begin to work their way up the table when he returns next month.”

Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford said: “The Portsmouth skipper scored sumptuous braces against both Fleetwood and Bristol Rovers which shot him to favouritism in our “League One Top Goalscorer” market.

“He's still only 29 and has course and distance form in finding the net as this level.”

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet EFL trader Mikey Mumford.
