Two Sky Bet Championship games were played on Friday evening, with Sheffield United picking up three points at Burton Albion, while Preston North End and Bolton Wanderers played out a goalless draw live on Sky Sports.
The Blades won 3-1 at the Pirelli Stadium largely thanks to a Billy Sharp brace. His first came from the penalty spot on nine munutes, before Matty Palmer levelled for the Brewers just after the half-hour mark. Sharp and his fellow Sheffield men were quick to react to that though, the skipper put his side back in the lead just three minutes later.
Leon Clarke added the gloss to the victory in the second half to secure all three points and send Chris Wilder's side top of the league - at least until Saturday's fixtures are played.
At Deepdale, Preston and Bolton met in a Lancashire Derby that was aired live on Sky Sports, and it was largely a game of attrition. The sides battled to a goalless draw, leaving both managers reasonably happy.
