The nominations for the Sky Bet League One Player of the Month award for April 2017.
Leon Clarke (Sheffield United) – strikerWhen he is on form and infused with belief, there are very few EFL strikers who can match the much-travelled front man. Finally free of injuries, his six goals in six games came in all varieties – headers, volleys and sweeping finishes.
Ricky Holmes (Charlton Athletic) – winger
Embarked upon a personal goal of the month competition in April with a series of stunning solo efforts. Free-kicks as well as cutting in from the left and shooting into the far corner are the specialities of Charlton’s attacking driving force.
Mark Marshall (Bradford City) – winger
Rediscovered his early season zest with a series of sparkling displays as Bradford secured a Play-Off berth. Equally happy running outside defenders or cutting inside, his two assists and two goals included a lovely strike against Bury.
David Wheater (Bolton Wanderers) – defender
Scored in each of his side’s final two games to make it nine for the season as promotion was clinched – a superb return for a defender who fulfilled his primary role manfully as part of a rearguard which conceded just two goals in seven April games.
The winner will be announced on Friday.
