Managers: Neil, McClaren, Joyce depart – updated EFL managers table

13 March 2017

Three EFL clubs have parted company with their respective managers over the last four days, with the end of the 2016/17 season now in sight.

Norwich City terminated the contract of Alex Neil last Friday with the board of directors believing it to be in the best interests of the club for a new boss to be in place through a crucial summer transfer window.

The Canaries sit ninth in the Sky Bet Championship, eight points off the top six, and drew with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, under the guidance of caretaker Alan Irvine.

Derby County then dismissed Steve McClaren on Sunday following a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday. The Rams have only won once in nine matches, and lie 10th in the table.

“The Brighton game on Friday night was so far from what we expect to see from those wearing a Derby County shirt," chairman Mel Morris said.

“To ensure we are on the right path, it is important to put the building blocks in place so we can develop a team we can all be proud of. Players should wear the shirt with pride and share, espouse and exude the qualities and values we believe are important to the club, its supporters and the community."

Warren Joyce was the third manager to be dismissed, on Monday, with chairman David Sharpe stating that the standard of play had been below expectation.

The Latics are 23rd in the Championship, four points adrift of safety approaching the final stages of the campaign.
