Pre-season: It's back to action as players build up match fitness

6 July 2017

This week, pre-season has stepped up a notch, with a number of sides getting 90 minutes under their belt for the first time since the 2016/17 campaign came to a close.

Queens Park Rangers were one of the first sides to return to the pitch, and they dusted off the cobwebs with a 4-0 win over National League outfit Bromley.

Daniel Farke and Thomas Christiansen took charge of their new club for the first time, both enjoying winning starts. Norwich City had five different scorers in a 5-0 rout of Cobh Ramblers, while Leeds United ran out 4-2 victors against neighbours Harrogate Town.

Milton Keynes Dons and Grimsby Town also took on local sides for their first test of pre-season. Dons beat Buckingham Athletic 3-0, while the Mariners fought back from conceding two early goals to beat Cleethorpes Town 4-2.

The pick of the bunch? Jamey Osborne's effort from inside his own half.

Back on the training ground, Karlan Ahearne-Grant netted a stunning pre-season strike of his own as Charlton Athletic continued their build-up to the Sky Bet League One campaign.

Simon Grayson met his Sunderland squad for the first time as the Black Cats took to the training pitch, and there was an unexpected guest too at their camp in Austria.

Unfortunately, this hang glider dropping in wasn't the latest inventive way of announcing a new signing...

And the image of the week comes from Poland, where Fulham have been stepping up their Sky Bet Championship preparations. Michael Madl was perfectly placed during this drill!

We'll be back with more pre-season highlights next week.
