Broadcaster and presenter Colin Murray will be the new face of Channel 5’s football coverage ahead of the 2017/18 Sky Bet EFL season.
Murray will present highlights from the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two, as well as the Carabao Cup and Checkatrade Trophy Final.
Renowned for his entertaining and opinionated style, Murray brings a wealth of experience from the sporting world, having presented for a decade on BBC Sport, talkSPORT and BBC 5 Live.
“These clubs are the lifeblood of English football, and my radio shows have always focused on football outside of the top flight, both on and off the pitch,” said Murray.
“Football on 5 is going to be more about the action and the fans than ever before, focusing on what matters... goals on the pitch and community off it. It’ll be great to be a small part of that.”
Murray joins ahead of what is shaping up to be another exciting season across the EFL, following a hugely successful 2016/17 campaign which saw record-breaking numbers of fans coming through the turnstiles.
More than 18 million supporters watched their teams live last term, with clubs recording their highest combined crowd figures since 1959 - and it's that passion that has drawn Murray to the competition.
Murray added: “I have a soft spot for a few EFL teams, but I don’t support any so there are no conflicts of interest!
“However, I do make sure I visit a few EFL grounds every season, because the experiences are so varied and different, plus the connection to the fans is often more special. I’m as excited to front a show that brings you the goals from The New Lawn as I am from Villa Park.”
Coverage will continue to be produced by Sunset + Vine with the format undergoing a refresh for the new season.
