Sky Bet League One: McLaughlin brothers make history with midweek goals

25 January 2017

Two Sky Bet League One matches took place on Tuesday night, and a little piece of history was made in the process.

Fleetwood Town’s Conor McLaughlin opened the scoring as the Cod Army racked up a fifth straight league victory, defeating Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane.

Younger brother Ryan then followed suit, netting his first Oldham Athletic goal as they beat Peterborough United by the same scoreline.

The pair became the first Northern Ireland senior internationals in 63 years to score for two different EFL clubs on the same date, following in the footsteps of the famous Blanchflower brothers.

Back on 6th February 1954, Danny scored twice for Aston Villa against Chelsea, while Jackie found the net for Manchester United against Preston North End.
