Sky Bet EFL: Midweek round-up

25 January 2017

Brighton & Hove Albion returned to the top of the Sky Bet Championship on Tuesday night.

They were made to work hard for victory against Cardiff City on, but Tomer Hemed sealed the three points with a solitary second-half strike and that lifted them back to the summit.

That wasn’t the only 1-0 home win of the night, with Reading edging past Fulham at the Madejski Stadium.

John Swift’s penalty was saved but followed up by Roy Beerens to give the Royals a first-half lead, but there was almost a late twist in the tale.

Fulham were awarded a penalty themselves in the dying moments, but Chris Martin saw his effort saved by Ali Al-Habsi, preserving the Royals' advantage and sending them up to third.

On Wednesday, goals from Chris Wood and Souleymane Doukara saw Leeds United beat Nottingham Forest 2-0.

Wood's strike was his 20th of the season, while Doukara's was a stunning volley, and the three points moved Leeds up to third in the table.
