With just five Sky Bet Championship fixtures taking place, Reading regained third spot with a 2-1 home win over Cardiff City.
John Swift and Yann Kermorgant scored either side of a Joe Ralls penalty to ensure the three points went to the Royals.In the day's Yorkshire derby, Barnsley travelled to bottom side Rotherham United and came away with the spoils. Loanee Adam Armstrong scored the only goal of the game to take the Tykes to within a point of a Play-Off spot.
Norwich City also picked up a victory to take them within touching distance of the top six. Cameron Jerome and Timm Klose found the back of the net in a 2-0 triumph, leaving Gianfranco Zola still in search of his maiden win as Blues boss.
At the opposite end, Burton Albion moved out of the bottom three with a 2-1 triumph away at QPR - Luke Murphy and Lloyd Dyer on target for the Brewers.
The only draw of the day came at Deepdale as a late Jordan Hugill strike secured a point for Preston against Ipswich Town.

Scunthorpe United trailed twice against Port Vale, but came out on the right side of the five-goal thriller to regain top spot.
Tyler Walker and JJ Hooper were on target for the Valiants but a 71st-minute goal from Tom Hopper proved to be the winner for the Iron.
Third-placed Bolton Wanderers lost their second successive home fixture from an unlikely position against Charlton Athletic. Lewis Page was shown a red card in the 11th minute for the visitors, and that was shortly followed by a Zach Clough strike for the Trotters.
However, Patrick Bauer and Nathan Byrne scored for Karl Robinson's side to earn them all three points and the EFL result of the day.

MK Dons got their third win in four games with a brilliant 4-0 win away at Peterborough United, Chuks Aneke bagging a brace to make it four goals in two games for the club. Bradford City picked up three points on the road too, defeating Oldham Athletic 2-1 to move within a point of third.
There was a six-goal thriller at Gigg Lane as Bury drew 3-3 with Walsall. The hosts were 2-0 up at the break, before the Saddlers turned the game on its head with three goals in eight minutes. However, a 91st-minute goal from Tom Soares earned the Shakers a point.
Justin Edinburgh got his first win in charge of Northampton Town, watching on as Keshi Anderson fired in a hat-trick on his home debut against Coventry City.

Doncaster Rovers just keep on winning - it's now five on the bounce and seven in their last eight matches after Saturday's 3-0 victory away at Yeovil Town.
There was a fifth straight win for Exeter City too, who defeated Portsmouth 1-0 at Fratton Park to stretch their unbeaten run to 10 games.
However, it's five Sky Bet League Two fixtures without a win for Carlisle United who were held to a 1-1 draw at home by 10-man Barnet, and Luton Town moved within four points of the Cumbrians after defeating Cambridge United. Isaac Vassell and Jordan Cook scored for the Hatters, making it back-to-back defeats for Shaun Derry's men.
At the opposite end, Notts County's 13-match winless run came to an end, as Kevin Nolan picked up his first three points at the helm. The 10-man Magpies tasted league success for the first time since October with their 2-1 triumph over Crawley Town.
