Queens Park Rangers beat Reading 1-0 to record their third victory on the spin in the Sky Bet Championship.Jamie Mackie was the match-winner, with the striker scoring his first goal since recovering from a long-term injury to help Rangers climb up to 15th in the table.
It was hosts Reading - sitting third in the league - who went on the attack first, with Garath McCleary unleashing a powerful half-volley just over the bar.
Then Mackie fired over at the other end to register QPR’s first effort on goal and, shortly after, he crossed low for Idrissa Sylla, whose back-post shot hit the side-netting.
The QPR front man was looking lively and full of energy, and it was no surprise he scored the all-important goal with 28 minutes on the clock.
A quick counter saw Pawel Wszolek dart down the right before pulling the ball back to Ryan Manning, and he exquisitely picked out Mackie at the far post, who made no mistake from close range.
The 31-year-old then had a shot deflected wide from a Wszolek centre, and the latter player skipped past Ali Al-Habsi in the Reading goal just before the break, only to see the Royals defence recover to clear.
Much like the first, the second half was a lively affair, but Reading failed to create many chances despite dominating possession, while QPR always looked dangerous.
Sylla saw a low shot kept out by a combination of Al-Habsi and defender Liam Moore on the hour, but the Royals had their moments in attack.
A Roy Beerens effort was blocked by Jake Bidwell in the box after he was freed over the top, while Yann Kermorgant twice went close with his head, clipping the bar first, and nodding agonizingly wide shortly after.
It wasn’t to be for Reading and QPR took the three points to kick-off the Matchday 26 action in the division.
