Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month nominations - December 2016

5 January 2017

The nominations for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for December 2016.

Dave Edwards (Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Liberated by new Wolves manager Paul Lambert, the 30-year-old went forward with stunning effect in December, arriving late in the area to score four decisive goals. Each one either put Wolves in front or brought them level.

Dwight Gayle (Newcastle United)

Six more goals in December for Newcastle’s prolific forward. His hat-trick against Birmingham City was a perfect header, right-foot tap-in, left-foot finish combination, while a brilliant angled volley against Nottingham Forest highlighted his technique.

David Stockdale (Brighton & Hove Albion)

The last line of an impressive defence, he pulled off crucial saves at vital times to preserve all four of Brighton’s victories in the month. Outstanding at Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham, his hallmark this season has been his consistency.

Sam Winnall (Barnsley)

Scored every type of goal in December - running on to through-balls, turning the ball home from close range and cleverly looping headers when needed, as he did against Cardiff City. It all added up to six goals in six appearances in the month.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
