Sky Bet EFL: Matchday round-up

14 February 2017

It was a good night for the Play-Off pack on a goal-filled night in the Sky Bet Championship on Valentine's Day.

Neither of the top two, Newcastle United or Brighton & Hove Albion, managed to pick up three points, giving the chasing group behind the chance to close the gap.

Newcastle drew 2-2 at Norwich City despite going ahead through Ayoze Perez after 23 seconds, while the Seagulls shared the spoils with Ipswich Town.

Tommy Smith’s last-gasp winner helped Huddersfield Town to a 3-2 triumph over Rotherham United, and Reading recorded the same scoreline at home to Brentford.

Chris Wood continued his goalscoring form as Leeds United edged past Bristol City 2-1, and Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday mirrored that scoreline against Blackburn Rovers thanks to Vincent Sasso’s double.

Preston North End continued the trend, overcoming Birmingham City by the odd goal in three, while Fulham emerged victorious in a five-goal thriller against Nottingham Forest.

There was another entertaining encounter at Pride Park where Derby County led Cardiff City 2-0, but the Bluebirds triumphed 4-3 thanks to a last-minute penalty from Joe Ralls.

Barnsley and Wigan Athletic were also victors on the road, winning at Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers respectively.
