Sky Bet EFL: Matchday round-up

11 February 2017

Newcastle United maintained their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship by beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0.

The pressure was on the Magpies in their Saturday evening kick-off after Brighton had briefly replaced them at the summit following their 4-1 victory at home to Burton.

But Rafa Benitez's men came up with the goods, with Aleksander Mitrovic's goal just before half-time proving enough for three points.

Huddersfield Town leapfrogged Reading into third courtesy of a 2-1 win at QPR, while Leeds suffered a home defeat at the hands of Cardiff.

That means sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday are now only two points adrift of their Yorkshire rivals, following their Friday night success against Birmingham.

Norwich continued their fine form in style, hitting five against Nottingham Forest, while Derby and Bristol City shared six goals in a thrilling draw, which saw the eighth-placed Rams fight back from three goals down.

Some mid-table movement saw Ipswich up to 13th following a late victory at Aston Villa, and Preston notched a 4-2 victory over Brentford.

At the bottom, Rotherham and Blackburn shared a 1-1 draw.
