Checkatrade Trophy: Quarter-Final review

7 February 2017

Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers fought back from behind to secure their spot in the Checkatrade Trophy Semi-Finals.

It took penalties to see Coventry through, with Ruben Lameiras sealing a 4-2 shoot-out success after Jordan Willis’ late equaliser had denied Swansea City U21 a place in the last four. Oli McBurnie had earlier put the Swans in front with his fifth goal in the competition.

In the night's other game, an inspired double substitution from Gareth Ainsworth saw Wycombe overturn a one-goal deficit to progress, claiming a dramatic 2-1 win at Mansfield Town.

Scott Kashket and Adebayo Akinfenwa were introduced in the 66th minute and it took just six minutes for the former to cancel out Matt Green’s first-half penalty. Ten minutes later, Akinfenwa turned the game on its head, and the Chairboys held on to leave them 90 minutes from a Wembley place.

In the first of two re-arranged Quarter-Finals, last year's finalists Oxford United advanced with a 2-1 win over Bradford City.

Chris Maguire and Marvin Johnson struck twice in quick succession to put the U's on their way, and they held on despite Jordy Hiwula's late strike for the Bantams.

It was goals galore between Luton and Yeovil, with the Hatters coming out on top by five goals to two.

Man of the Match Isaac Vassell scored twice, while Jordan Cook, Alan Sheehan and Danny Hylton also got on the scoresheet for Nathan Jones' side.
