Goal of the Month: November nominees

8 December 2017

The November nominations for the Sky Bet Goal of the Month Award are:

Adam Reach – Sheffield Wednesday v Aston Villa (4th November)

What a way to start a match. Only 18 seconds had elapsed when Reach strode forward into space and judged his approach to a bouncing ball and his left-foot volley to perfection.

Barry Douglas – Wolverhampton Wanderers v Leeds United (22nd November)

It didn’t matter that the ball was placed level with the side edge of the Leeds penalty area, Douglas trusted in his ability to curl his free-kick over the wall and into the net in a flash.

Danny Ward – Cardiff City v Nottingham Forest (26th November)

When the ball was flicked on to him, Ward was the only Cardiff player in the Forest half, so he simply jinked inside and unleashed a hammerhead of a strike into the far corner.

Eoin Doyle – Oldham Athletic v Rochdale (18th November)

A hopeful punt upfield blossomed into a goal of stunning beauty. Doyle judged the path of Aaron Holloway’s flick-on and let fly with the sweetest of volleys into the opposite corner.

Josh Morris – Scunthorpe United v Charlton Athletic (25th November)

If Morris’ turn away from Charlton defenders was exquisite, the ability to bend his right-foot shot into the far top corner in the final moments of its trajectory was other-worldly.

Erhun Oztumer – Walsall v AFC Wimbledon(25th November)

Dons keeper George Long perhaps feared the worst when his clearance fell at the Turkish Messi’s feet, but he couldn’t have expected a strike which combined such accuracy and ferocity as the ball flew back past him and into the net.

Danny Grainger – Carlisle United v Yeovil Town (11th November)

Collecting the ball in midfield, Grainger took two strides forward before uncorking a 30-yard piledriver which traced a beautiful arc as it bent away from Yeovil’s Artur Krysiak.

Jak McCourt – Chesterfield v Swindon Town (11th November)

No-one expected McCourt to shoot from 35 yards out, except the player himself. So true was his strike that it reached the apex of its flight just as it hit the top corner of the net.

Olly Lee – Luton Town v Cambridge United (18th November)

The two ends of Kenilworth Road are in different postcodes. Biting into a tackle, Lee sized up his opportunity instantly and sent an unforgettable, unerring shot from one half of the pitch into the goal at the other.

Voting closes on Tuesday 12th December. Winners will be announced on Friday 15th December
