Preview: Sky Bet Championship Matchday 3

15 August 2017

Following a weekend packed full of goals and excitement, the Sky Bet Championship is back this week, with a complete programme of fixtures over Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Here’s our Matchday 3 preview…

Warnock meets former employers

After racking up a second successive league victory with a 3-0 triumph over Aston Villa, Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City host one of his former clubs, Sheffield United, this Tuesday.

A brace from Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and a strike from Junior Hoilett secured the points for the Bluebirds, who sit on six points after their two matches thus far.

The Blades on the other hand have half of their opponents’ tally, after being narrowly edged out by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday evening.

Owls and Black Cats clash for first time in over a decade

Wednesday night’s clash at Hillsborough sees Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland face off in their first meeting since January 2007.

That encounter also came in England’s second tier, with the men from Wearside running out 4-2 winners away from home.

Carlos Carvalhal and his team go into the game looking for their first victory of the Sky Bet Championship campaign, where as the Black Cats moved onto four points thanks to a 3-1 success against Norwich City on Sunday afternoon.

Around the grounds

Fresh from a comprehensive home display against Burton Albion on Saturday, Hull City are back at the KCOM Stadium, taking on a Wolverhampton Wanderers outfit who’ve made a 100 per cent start to the new season.

Barnsley will be aiming to get off the mark in 2017/2018, with the Tykes playing host to an in-form Nottingham Forest side at Oakwell.

Tuesday’s 8pm kick-off comes from the Madejski Stadium where Reading meet Aston Villa, with both teams seeking their first victory of the season.

Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers, along with the aforementioned Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland, bring the action to an end on Wednesday night, when they meet in Norfolk.
