#DeadlineDay: As it happened

August 31st marked the end of the summer transfer window, when managers across the EFL made the last-minute additions to bolster their squad for the months ahead. We followed all the transfer activity throughout the day, and here's our live blog of how #DeadlineDay unfolded.

[23:00] Winnall joins Rams, Butterfield moves in opposite direction

The deadline has now passed, but Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday completed the respective loan signings of Sam Winnall and Jacob Butterfield ahead of the window closing.

Both move on season-long loan deals.

[22:15] Shakers make second addition of #DeadlineDay

After bringing in Josh Laurent on a season-long loan from Wigan Athletic, Bury have also added Michael Smith to their squad on a permenant basis.

[21:45] Woolford makes Mariners move

Martyn Woolford has joined Grimsby Town on a one-year deal. The former Fleetwood Town man becomes the Mariners' 12th summer signing.

[21:15] Midfield addition at Oakwell

Paul Heckingbottom has strenghted his Barnsley squad with the season-long loan signing of Gary Gardner from Aston Villa.

[20:45] Agyei arrives at the Banks's Stadium

Walsall have signed striker Daniel Agyei on a six-month loan deal from Burnley. The 20-year-old scored four goals in 12 starts during a loan spell at Coventry City at the beginning of last season.

[20:15] Trotters add Noone

Cardiff City winger Craig Noone has moved to Bolton Wanderers on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old made 170 appearances in all competitions for the Bluebirds, and also scored 19 goals.

[19:45] Mowatt makes Oxford United switch

The U's have bolstered their ranks with the addition of Alex Mowatt from Barnsley. The 22-year-old midfielder arrives on a season-long loan deal.

[19:15] Blues break transfer record to land Jota

Jota has joined Birmingham City from Brentford. The Spaniard, who arrived at the Bees in August 2014, joins Harry Redknapp's side for a club record transfer fee.

[18:45] Wootton heads out on loan

Stevenage have made their second addition of the day. Following the arrival of Charlie Wakefield on loan from Chelsea, Scunthorpe United forward Kyle Wootton has joined on loan until January. 

[18:15] O'Keefe joins Portsmouth

The midfielder arrives at Fratton Park on a season-long loan deal from Cardiff City, and will give Pompey manager Kenny Jackett another option in midfield.

[17:45] Worth the wait

Yeovil Town added a new face to their midfield, with the addition of Bournemouth's Matt Worthington on loan until the end of the season. He becomes the Glovers' 13th signing of the summer.

[16:45] Luton's double signing... sort of!

With calls to announce a signing, Luton's Twitter feed granted the wishes of their followers. But, it wasn't quite the news the Hatters' faithful were hoping for. Good work!

Fellow League Two outfit Accrington Stanley have bolstered their ranks though, with the loan signing of Derby County's Farrend Rawson.

[16:30] Daniels heads to 'Dale

Donvervon Daniels has joined Rochdale on loan from divisional rivals Wigan Athletic, until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old made 45 appearance for the Latics in the 2015/16 season - the year they won promotion from Sky Bet League One.

[16:00] Another goalkeeper on the move

Swindon Town have announced the signing of Reice Charles-Cook from fellow Sky Bet League Two side Coventry City. The stopper made 50 apperances for the Sky Blues.

Whilst with the Midlands club, the 23-year-old set a club post-war record for the most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

[16:00] Sanmi signs for free

Colchester United have added another option to their frontline with the free signing of Sanmi Odelusi. The forward spent last season on loan at Rochdale and now links up with the U's.

[15:00] Stockley re-joins Exeter

Exeter City have paid a club-record fee to add 23-year-old Jayden Stockley to their squad. The striker is a familiar face to Grecians fans, he scored 10 goals in 21 appearances during the 2015/16 season.

[15:00] Done deal at Fratton Park

Portsmouth have completed the signing of Oliver Hawkins from Dagenham & Redbridge. The 25-year-old netted 18 times last season in the National League and signs a three deal with Pompey.

[14:45] Marvin Johnson jumps a division and heads to Boro

Garry Monk has bolstered his attacking options with his tenth signing of the summer - the addition of Oxford United winger Marvin Johnson. The winger has had spells in non-league, the SPFL, and now finds himself in English football's second tier.

[14:30] Toffolo joins Doncaster Rovers

Rovers have secured the loan signing of Norwich City's 22-year-old defender Harry Toffolo.

[14:30] Haiti international joins Oldham

Oldham Athletic have added Haiti international stopper Johny Placide. The goalkeeper has plenty of experience with more than 150 apperances in French football's top tier.

Exeter City have signed 19-year-old forward Kyle Edwards on loan from West Brom.

[13:45] From Championship to League Two; QPR's Brandon Comley joins Colchester United.

The midfielder made 36 league appearances while on loan at Grimsby Town last season, and will be a welcome addition to the U's midfield.

[12:30] A new man between the sticks for Accrington Stanley.

John Coleman has signed Max Stryjek on loan from Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland.

[11:30] Portsmouth defender pens deal with Sky Blues.

Tom Davies is the newest addition to Mark Robins' squad, and will add extra steel to the Coventry City backline as they seek an immediate return to Sky Bet League One.

[10:45] Double loan deal for Swindon Town.

The Robins have signed Derby County duo Timi Elsnik and Kellan Gordon on loan until the end of the season.

[10:30] Exeter City's loss is Queens Park Rangers' gain. David Wheeler netted 21 goals across all competitions last season for the Grecians, and will now test his ability in the Championship at Loftus Road.

The new addition to League One joined Doncaster Rovers. Jordan Houghton has re-joined Rovers after making 36 appearances on the way to promotion last season on loan from Chelsea.

Sky Bet League Two side Exeter City have signed West Bromwich Albion's Kane Wilson on loan until January.

A lot of the movement began yesterday, with teams across all three divisions bolstering their squads.

Sky Bet Championship

It was one in and one out in the centre of defence for Harry Redknapp's Birmingham City. Ryan Shotton departed to head north to Middlesbrough, and the Blues welcomed Brentford's Harlee Dean to St Andrew's as a replacement.

Norwich were another side to bolster their defensive options. Grant Hanley, who won the division last year with Newcastle United, will be looking to do the same at Carrow Road this term.

Bury signed winger Mihai Dobre on loan from Premier League side Bournemouth. He's a Romanian Under-21 international and will link up with the Shakers after international duty.

After joining Bury at the beginning of the transfer window, it was time for Adam Thompson to move again yesterday. The Northern Ireland-capped centre back joined Bradford City for the season.

Sky Bet League Two

Born in Chesterfield, but he's represented Italy. Diego De Girolamo returned to his hometown club on loan from Bristol CIty.

A front man was added to the Wycombe Wanderers squad too. QPR youngster, Eberechi Eze joined on loan until January.

Conor Grant was promoted as a champion from Sky Bet League Two last season with Doncaster Rovers and Crewe Alexandra has jumped at the chance to add that experience to their squad on loan from Premier League side Everton.
