EFL: Goal-line technology called into action for the first time

5 August 2017

Goal-line technology was called into action for the first time of the 2017/18 season on Saturday.

The incident occurred at Portman Road in the match between Ipswich Town and Birmingham City, in which the hosts won 1-0. Birmingham were denied a potential goal in the first half after the new technology showed that the ball had not crossed the line.

The Hawk-Eye technology was installed at all Championship clubs prior to the start of the season in order to assist referees and their assistants in making crucial decision whereby there is no doubt as to whether the balk has crossed the line or not.

Both the headline image, and below images show the angles made available with the use of Hawk-Eye. The above video presents all of these and the action itself to viewers.
