Brighton & Hove Albion fell short of getting their hands on the Sky Bet Championship title after losing 2-0 to Norwich City.
It was an evening to forget for Brighton’s David Stockdale with his two unfortunate own goals handing the Canaries all three points. The damage was done in the first half, with Norwich midfielder Alex Pritchard the instigator as Alan Irvine’s men built up what proved an unassailable lead despite not registering a shot on target.
With 18 minutes played, a stunning effort from the 23-year-old struck the crossbar before bouncing off Stockdale’s back and into the net.
Just over 20 minutes later, it was the same combination. This time, Pritchard’s shot found the post before deflecting in off the luckless ‘keeper.
The second half was a quieter affair with the already-promoted Brighton trying in vain to get themselves back into proceedings.
Glenn Murray had a header cleared off the line just before the hour, but that was the closest that Chris Hughton’s men came. The title race goes on.
