Exeter City striker Ollie Watkins has been named the EA Sports Young Player of the Season at the 2017 EFL Awards.
Watkins has spearheaded the Grecians’ promotion charge this season, finding the net 14 times.The youngster beat off competition from Reading’s England Under-21 international John Swift and Oxford United’s Ryan Ledson.
Watkins said: “I am really pleased to have been recognised by the EFL. It has been my breakthrough year at Exeter and I appreciate the manager for believing in me.”
Previous winners of the award include Gareth Bale and Dele Alli, and Watkins’ name is now on that elite list.
